Gold Rush In Washington DC
I have been fairly stressed out lately going through a lot with a lot going on, so when I heard that the Gold Rush Rally group was stopping in Washington DC Saturday evening I jumped at the chance to get away from everything for a few hours, even if it was by myself.
As previously mentioned, one thing I love about the east coast is how relatively close everything is located. They met at the National Harbor so it only took about 2 and half hours to get there. It was pouring rain and during rush hour so I got caught in about an hour of extra traffic. I had left early and they ended up arrive late, and in style ;) , so I was able to grab a bite at a burger place, Elevation Burger, which has an amazing Oreo milkshake.
Thankfully they arrived late enough that the rain had also let up, which in turn led me running around sweating in my winter jacket, trying to find my car to drop it off at. People lined the street in front of the Gaylord Hotel with cameras and phones in hand as the cars started to roll in a few at a time around 6:30pm. Open to the public people slowly wandered up to the fourth floor of the parking garage where we were greeted by a Dj, a floor full of amazing cars, and a lot of other people.
Being by myself, I didn't know anyone and am not the best at striking conversations so I checked out the scene and played with the camera a bit before I felt awkward and decided to head out. I also didn't necessarily want to walk to my car alone in the dark so it worked out nicely.
I have been hoping the Gold Rush Rally group would have a location within driving distance for a while now and this one couldn't have come at a better time. It felt amazing to just forget everything for a few hours and visit a place I have yet to adventure. The area they met at was great little community that had a bunch of nice restaurants and stores with a perfect view lining the river. Great view, amazing cars, and good food: my recipe for relaxation.
